US editor, critic and author whose main focus of interest is Horror and supernatural fiction, in this capacity publishing many reviews in Crypt of Cthulhu and other venues since 1985, and co-editing the critical Fanzine Necrofile: The Review of Horror Fiction with S T Joshi and Michael A Morrison for its entire run of seven issues, Summer 1991 to Fall 1994; Necrofile won a 1995 British Fantasy Award. He has edited many anthologies, usually in collaboration, beginning with Weird Tales: 32 Unearthed Terrors (anth 1988) with Martin H Greenberg and T Liam McDonald – a selection from Weird Tales – and including the 100 sequence beginning with 100 Ghastly Little Ghost Stories (anth 1993) with Martin H Greenberg and Robert E Weinberg; sf tales with appropriate themes were regularly included. H.P. Lovecraft Selects: Classic Horror Stories (anth 2016) assembles over thirty stories singled out for praise by H P Lovecraft in Supernatural Horror in Literature (mid-1927 The Recluse; rev October 1933-February 1935 The Fantasy Fan; 1945).
